Bourbon Hot Chocolate

1 - 18 oz

Introduction

This hot chocolate recipe can be edited to add your favorite booze whether bourbon, rum, Bailey's (their almond one is amazing!), or KahlĂșa. It can also be made in the microwave, just be sure to stir and not overcook. For a richer chocolate, add a couple tablespoons of semisweet chips. If you like cherries, try it with a couple Luxardo. Delicious! The point is, the best way to make hot cocoa is to start with a base recipe, then adjust for your palate.

The recipe makes approx 18 oz of cocoa.

Ingredients:

3 heaping tsp cocoa (I used a half natural half Dutch processed blend)

3 heaping tsp sugar (I used organic cane sugar)

1/2 tsp vanilla

2 cups milk

1/4 cup heavy cream (or half and half if unavailable)

1 1/2 oz bourbon (that's 1 shot, but you're welcome to more!)

Marshmallows for topping (or fresh bourbon whipped cream for super yumminess!)

How to make:

  1. In a small pot over medium heat combine milk, sugar and cocoa. Whisk until hot, almost boiling. Whisk in cream, then vanilla and remove from heat.

  2. Pour into your favorite large mug. Top with marshmallows or whipped cream. Enjoy!
